Daikin High Wall Mini Split Product Comparison (17 Series, 19 Series, and Emura)

It is no surprise that Daikin makes some of the best products on the market. They have many ductless mini splits to choose from and most people have a hard time differentiating from the different options. In this blog post, we will go over the 3 most popular highwall ductless mini split from Daikin and explain their features and benefits.

1) Daikin 17 Series

The Daikin 17 Series is the most popular mini split products on the Daikin line up. This mini split unit is designed to be 17 SEER and includes many of the premium features found in higher end product lines such as: titanium nano air filter, and blue fin coating (anti-corrosion and good in ocean locations). This unit is the standard mini split system and for most people this is the best option. The Daikin 17 Series comes with a remote control which is the most common ways of using these systems. It does not have the capabilities for using the Daikin wifi adapter. For people that want to use wifi and their smart phones, you will need to get a 3rd party adapter.

2) Daikin 19 Series

The Daikin 19 Series is very similar to the 17 Series. The main differences are: 1) this unit is rated at 19 SEER and 2) you can add-on Daikin's wifi controller to it. This unit also comes with the titanium nano filter and the blue fin coating. The Daikin 19 Series is normally 15% to 25% more expensive than the 17 Series. Is it worth it to pay for the price difference? In most cases, no. We usually recommend our customers stick with the 17 Series because as an inverter mini split, there is very little difference that the 2 additional SEER makes. As for the Wifi capabilities, there are many good 3rd party adapters that can work well for the 17 Series. The main differentiator would be the additional SEER.

2) Daikin Emura

This is the newest high wall unit on the market for Daikin. It has a sleek design which makes it look and feel differently than any other unit on the market. We have many customers choose this option purely based on the look itself. It is rated at between 18 and 20 SEER depending upon configuration. Similar to the 19 Series, this unit has a titanium nano filter, blue fin coating, and the ability to integrate with Daikin's wifi app. For the most part, this system is on par with the Daikin 19 Series with the exception of one unique feature. This unit has an infrared heat sensor which detects the occupants and delivers heating and cooling directly to you.

The Daikin Emura is usually priced at the same level as the 19 Series. Is it worth it to get this unit? Yes, if you care about the design and like the added feature of the infrared sensor. This unit definitely deserves the price premium over the 17 series.

Which unit should you get? For most of our customers, we recommend the 17 Series. Daikin is super generous in that they offer many of their best features such as the titanium nano filter and blue fin coating on all their models. You won't be compromising quality when you go with the 17 Series. All three units come with a 10 year manufacturer warranty and their expected life cycle is 15 to 20 years.

For people that like the design of the Emura and want the extra infrared sensor, it is a very good option. This unit is worth the extra money.

As for the 19 Series, this is the unfortunate middle child. For most people, the best choice is either the 17 series or the Emura. It is rare to choose the 19 Series since the additional 2 SEER doesn't justify the difference in prices from the 17 Series.

Overall, Daikin makes very solid products with the best warranties on the market. The 17 Series comes with a 10 year warranty. The 19 Series and Emura come with a 12 year warranty.
